We live in a world that is all about finding a meaningful purpose. That’s a great thing! No longer is it a time where we have to do the same routines and activities every day. We no longer spend most of our time trying to get through the day just living for the weekends. Life is more convenient than ever thanks to the technology that frees us up and gives us more time dedicated to finding meaning and purpose. But the problem with meaningful purpose is that we forget about our present day and always long for more.
For example, if we woke up today and looked at our to-do lists and don’t see anything particularly important or impactful -- no life-changing event or opportunity for positive transformation -- we may get down on ourselves and think: “What’s the point?” Or we may go the complete opposite direction and try to make our day something that it was never meant to be just to feel like we made a difference. But it’s important to know that the big, impactful, and important things in our futures are made from the little decisions and actions we take in the present day.
Just like beautiful flowers and plants come from daily tending to the original seed, so our personal growth comes from the small things we do consistently each day. Each day is an opportunity that sets the course for our tomorrow, next week, next year, and ten years from now.
With that in mind, here are a few things you can do today to give you a better tomorrow!
1. Treat your body with love and respect:
Make sure what you put into your body is giving it the energy you need to be your best self throughout the day. Sure it’s fun to indulge every now and then, but remember consistent indulgences will lead to habits that may get you into trouble in the future and cause destructive cycles that are difficult to break.
2. Give yourself peace of mind:
It’s easy to allow stress into our lives, but it’s so much more beneficial in the long-run to work towards peace of mind. A few ways to do this is to take time throughout the day to reflect and reset during stressful moments. Choose not to let a stressful event or circumstance dictate your entire day. Learn to bounce back and move forward by choosing peace.
3. Be grateful:
“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Practicing gratitude is always a sure way to make your today impact your tomorrow. Gratitude is a way to rewire the brain for positive wellbeing and it’s a good way to acknowledge that what we have today contributes to our advancement tomorrow.
4. Learn from your relationships:
“There is a purpose for everyone you meet. Some people will test you, some will use you, some will bring out the best in you, but everyone will teach you something about yourself. Both positive and negative relationships teach you valuable lessons. This is an incredible step toward expanding your consciousness. The road to self-discovery requires help from others. No relationship is a waste of time. The wrong ones teach you the lessons that prepare you for the right ones. Appreciate everyone that enters your life because they are contributing to your growth and happiness.” ~ John Geiger
Every relationship you have teaches you something. Be willing to learn from your relationships and use what you’ve learned today to help you become who you want to be tomorrow.
5. Manage your mind:
If you live in a state of mind today that limits you, talks down to you, or allows fear to overtake you, then you are creating pathways in your brain that will keep you stuck in this same place weeks, months, and even years from now. Learn to manage your mind and choose thoughts for yourself that keep the vision of your future at the forefront of your mind.
Bottom line: Today matters to your tomorrow!
So, think to yourself: what are you doing today that will get you to where you want to be in the future? What changes do you need to make?
